Lieutenant Hunna’s Discovery
“The
man” had serious problems understanding the technicalities surrounding the
conception of “The process” in question. He would lay awake at night,
pondering what to make of it all, but to no avail. He was lost. “The other
man”, commonly known as “His brother” had an even more delicate problem.
“His wife”, whom he usually referred to as “My wife”, was cheating on him.
He was completely aware of this, but there was nothing he could do about it,
except try to help his brother figure out his difficulties surrounding “The
process”. As they got ready to start “The experiment”, “The man” and “The
other man” came to a sudden realization: The process was impossible to
complete! A young lieutenant called Hunna had realized this several hundred
years earlier, but “The man” and “The other man” had mistaken him for “The
village idiot”, and amputated both his arms, his liver, and his neck, in an
attempt to silence him. (Today he was able to lead a more or less normal
life, except for the fact that he was unable to eat because of his missing
neck (he rarely touched alcohol, so his liver had seldom been used, and as
for the arms...WHO NEEDS ‘EM?!)). Anyway, “The man” and “The other man” were
at a dead end, and the vibe in the laboratory was quickly deteriorating into
chaos. In a fit of panic “The other man” looked at “The man” and realized
something REALLY strange. “”The man”” he said. “I’ve just realized something
REALLY strange”. “The man” looked surprised. “Hmmm. That’s odd” he
whispered. “You didn’t look like you were realizing something REALLY
strange, you looked like you were panicking”. “The other man” shook his
head. “No, no, no. I was realizing...well at first I was panicking, but then
I realized it was a realization, and not panic at all”. “Oh” said “The man”.
“The other man” took a deep breath. “I have realized that I am not “The
other man”. I am “The man”, and you are “The other man””. “The man” wouldn’t
hear of it. “HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT? I AM “THE MAN”. YOU ARE “THE OTHER MAN”
THAT’S THE WAY IT IS, AND THAT IS THE WAY IT MUST BE!” “The man” looked at
“The other man”, and “The other man” looked at the man. The both knew it.
This was the way it had to be, and this was the way it would stay forever.
The only surprise was that “The process” was never completed. Hunna,
however, never spoke again... |
