Stories From The Head

Children of the Mega-Monkey

“My dear little ones”, the Mega-Monkey boomed. “I have a task for each and every one of you”. The three children, Kemmet, Sennep and Lekkem, were shaking with anticipation. What task were these? And would they be considered what some monkeys called “cool”? Lekkem decided to have a banana, and the Mega-Monkey continued. “Rise, Sennep! For you I have the following task:” Lekkem put down the banana. “Sennep, my little ape, do NOT catch fire!” Kemmet eyed his brother. “Cool” he thought to himself. And he was right. Sennep had indeed been given a “cool” task. The earth shook as the Mega-Monkey cleared its throat. Lekkem decided to pick up the banana again. “Young Kemmet, my wonderful monkey-man, for you I have a great task”. Kemmet closed his eyes. “Please let it be “cool””, he thought to himself. “Please, please, please”. The Mega-Monkey put its hand on Kemmet’s head. “Don’t worry, my boy, it is a “cool” task”, it whispered as though it had read its son’s mind. “Your task is NOT experience a peculiar sensation in your funny-stick!” “WOW”, Lekkem thought as he chewed his banana. “That’s a SERIOUSLY “cool” task”. He finished the banana as he longed for his father to give him a task. “YOU, LEKKEM”, the Mega-Monkey roared, “will be given an easy task”. “Easy but “cool”?” Lekkem thought. His father continued. “LEKKEM! YOU SHALL NOT EAT THE BANANA!” Lekkem looked around. “I hope he doesn’t mean the banana I just ate”, he thought as he desperately searched for another banana. He didn’t find one. “”Cool”?” he whimpered as his brothers led him away. The Mega-Monkey was NOT happy. He felt a peculiar sensation in his funny-stick, and, as he quietly caught fire, he longed for one thing, and one thing only: He longed for the banana…
