Stories From The Head

The Joke

"Is this a joke?" asked the customs-officer, who, for some strange reason, was stationed in the middle of the country. "Yes. Yes it is!" replied Ærthur. The customs-officer, whose name by some wild coincidence was Detektiv, started laughing. Not only was it a joke, it was a damn good one, too. "Come on monsieur Ærthur, tell it again". Ærthur wasn't sure. He hated authority-figures like customs-officers, policemen and beggars, but what the hell..."Why did the biktek cross the løt? Because he had pekkatin in the hæppu!" Detektiv laughed even louder. The sound practically went from "ha ha ha" to "HA HA HA" in an instant. "This is my chance", Ærthur thought. He dashed through the border (the MIDDLE border seeing as this was at the centre of the country) and ran as fast as he could. Direction: The freeway. Detektiv finished laughing - "HA ha ha ha hmmm...". Why did Ærthur divert his attention by telling that brilliant joke? He had nothing to declare anyway. Or did he. They found Ærthur’s remains splattered on the freeway, run over by a small child in a large tractor (the kid didn't have a licence). In his left hand he was clutching a piece of paper which read:

"Why did the biktek cross the løt? Because he had pekkatin in the hæppu!

Why did the biktek cross the løt? Because he had pekkatin in the hæppu!

Why did the biktek cross the løt? Because he had pekkatin in the hæppu!

Why did the biktek cross the løt? Because he had pekkatin in the hæppu!

Why did the biktek cross the løt? Because he had pekkatin in the hæppu!

Why did the biktek cross the løt? Because he had pekkatin in the hæppu!

Why did the biktek cross the løt? Because he had pekkatin in the hæppu!

Why did the biktek cross the løt? Because he had pekkatin in the hæppu!

Why did the biktek cross the løt? Because he had pekkatin in the hæppu!

Why did the biktek cross the løt? Because he had pekkatin in the hæppu!"

All this time and Ærthur still hadn't memorised the joke. Detektiv took one last look at the joke, laughed for a while, then whispered "I don't get it". Neither did Ærthur. He never would...
