Stories From The Head

Into the valley

”We’ll be there in 4 hours”...the guide looked at the tourists without any compassion. The group, consisting of the guide, Koppaz, and about ninety tourists from Såmmar, stared at the valley. Koppaz had deliberately not told his group about the nature of the desert, and had on every occasion avoided the topic of dehydration. He believed that learning about dehydration “the hard way” would make his group better prepared to face the challenges of the desert the next time they came there. That is, if they survived THIS time. Svakemainn was probably the weakest participant on this expedition. He had started complaining already when his seven cats died of dehydration. Three minutes later, they entered the valley. They had then been on the road for nine minutes all together. This meant, that Svakemainn’s cats had been dead for 2 hours. The valley was stunningly beautiful. Its colour, its smell, its head. Soon, Svakemainn had forgotten all about the loss of his cats. Koppaz hadn’t even heard of the cats dying. Koppaz was a great guide. Koppaz and Svakemainn looked at each other. Svakemainn could finally concentrate on the loveliness of the valley’s head. The dead cats had been a barrier, but now Svakemainn was finally free...
